Submissions

Femme Salvé Books was established as a safe haven for poetry books that have been previously accepted by other publishing houses, and subsequently been released from their contracts or withdrawn from publication by their authors. We’re here to rescue those books.

Please note that at the core of Animal Heart Press is love. Although we wish it didn’t need to be said, we will not accept any work that is racist, homophobic, sexist or discriminatory. We are committed to publishing a variety of new, emerging and established voices. Further, we are committed to inclusion and equity in publishing. We highly encourage submissions from underrepresented voices including, but not limited to, women poets, poets of color, LGBTQ poets, and neurodivergent poets. International submissions are welcome, but we are only considering work in English at this time; no translations.

How to submit

Send an email to femmesalvebooks[at]gmail[dot]com with SUBMISSION – [YOUR NAME] as the subject.
Don’t send us an empty email – we wanna know about you.
Address your submission to Amanda, Beth, and Eli. We’re human and we have names – please use them!
We’d like to know where your book was originally accepted and when it was released from its contract. If you’d like to tell us why, super – if not, that’s okay too, but please be aware we might need to ask.

We want:
* Supreme craft. Femme Salvé will only be publishing a handful of books a year – they’ll be sparkling examples of poetry.
* Emotional resonance. Craft is great, but without connection it’s just pretty words. We want to be left on the floor, breathless and sobbing (tears of sorrow or joy), absolutely blown away by your work. It’s gotta be that good.
* We’re only considering chapbooks and full length collections of poetry.

Other helpful hints:
* Don’t deliberately pull an accepted work from somewhere else purely to submit it to Femme Salvé. That’s not what we’re here for.
* We’re tiny but mighty – we’ll get back to you very quickly with a decision, so please respect our time by NOT sending us simultaneous submissions. Give us that time with your work.
* Don’t send us stuff that is racist, homophobic, sexist or discriminatory. Also please don’t send us stuff if you are a known abuser. We’re not here for that either.

If you have questions, please email femmesalvebooks[at]gmail[dot]com with QUESTION as the subject, or use the contact page. We’ll get back to you as soon as we can.
